Recap Korean Drama "Big Mouth 2022" Episode 8 with Lee Jong Suk and Im Yoon Ah

Big Mouth episode 8 starts with Chang-ho dreaming of himself as Big Mouse and fighting with himself until he wakes up gagged and tied in the mental centre. He desperately tries to free himself but isn’t able to do so, and then Mi-young gives him a dose of something. They torture him for hours on end to break down his resolve and inject him with something further to get him to tell them the truth.

 

Soon after, Ji-hoon comes to torture Chang-ho some more along with Joong-rak – they inject the serum and watch him scream out in pain. However, as suddenly as he starts, he stops to watch a mouse on him. It innocently climbs up his leg and then attacks him, after which the entire room is filled with mice who are all attacking him. As he hallucinates, Ji-hoon asks him what he did with the 100 billion won. Chang-ho does answer truthfully but Ji-hoon doesn’t believe him.

Ji-hoon goes in to inject more “truth serum”, but (thankfully), Chang-ho blacks out. In another dream, a young Chang-ho gets an earful from Gi-gwang at the police station for getting into a fight. Mi-ho saves him that day as well, and the scene proves how much Mi-ho and Chang-ho love each other and also that Mi-ho is a total trooper. Anyway, the memory triggers him to ask himself whether he’s dying he immediately wakes up thanks to Ji-hoon throwing a bucket of water at him.

Before he injects Chang-ho with more serum, however, he tells them to dig near the A2 marker in Gudal Mountain. Ji-hoon promises to empty all the vials of the truth serum he has in him if he comes back empty-handed. Meanwhile, at the mental health centre, Chang-ho tries to bribe the captor but has no luck. Back at Gudal, after the crew finds one gold bar, Ji-hoon goes absolutely crazy trying to dig everything out. Meanwhile, we see the real Big Mouse keeping all of his money under lock and key somewhere else.

 

When Ji-hoon comes back to meet Chang-ho, the latter realizes that he told the truth to his captor – so does that mean Big Mouse has been keeping an eye on him? But, the most important thing at the moment is to save his life, and he starts to ask Ji-hoon whether he’s ok with the one bar of gold – he needs to keep Chang-ho happy so that he doesn’t die taking the whereabouts of his money. It seems like his plan might just work.

On the other hand, Jae-ho gets out on bail while Do-ha proposes to Joo-hee to have a baby together. The good news only lasts as long, however, when he gets an emergency news about Hye-jin. Mi-ho immediately gets a call from him and rushes to meet the mayor – they have her location. Unfortunately, although he is able to stop her from throwing the necklace away, it doesn’t have Jae-young’s research papers in them.

When Mi-ho gets there, Hye-jin gets even more agitated than before and threatens to harm them with a knife. Mi-ho is able to calm her down and make her talk after a while and Do-ha rushes out after hearing that the Elder has collapsed. Meanwhile, Mi-ho promises to help Hye-jin get out of her abusive situation, if only she can stand up for herself. Hye-jin, though, tells her that she can’t help her in any way in the given situation.

 

Meanwhile, Joo-hee creates the perfect situation for Do-ha to butter up the Elder. However, when he goes inside the room, he reaches out in order to choke him but stops him – it’s clear there’s some bad blood there and that Do-ha is probably in this situation for revenge. He contemplates killing him but doesn’t go through with it in the end.

Meanwhile, Big Mouse starts a fire at the mental health centre and helps Chang-ho finally get out. But, of course, not before getting into a fight with the guard in the pouring water, thanks to the sprinklers. But, surprise, surprise – it’s Jerry who has come to save Chang-ho. After the two fight with the guard, they get the upper hand and run away in Jerry’s car. A brief chase sequence later, Jerry tells Chang-ho to run away using another car while he lures the cars behind them.

Chang-ho is concerned for him, but Jerry tells him that Big Mouse paid him to do this and that he is the reason Chang-ho got the stomach ache. He promises to meet him later, and Jerry promises to tell him everything the next time they meet. And with that, the two part ways.

Chang-ho finds a phone and cash in the car while Jerry, in a bid to get away from the security team and the police, rushes through a police barricade. When Chang-ho goes back to find Mi-ho and figure out what is going on, he sees Jerry’s dead body as he’s being put into a stretcher. Chang-ho looks angry and heartbroken – is this the push that he needed to take things to another level?

 

Anyway, Mi-ho tries to make Hye-jin see the light and is shocked when she later sees on the TV that Chang-ho has escaped. The news spreads like wildfire and different people take it differently – while the prisoners take inspiration from his daring escape, there’s only fear in the hearts of the Three Musketeers, especially Jae-ho. As security beefs up everywhere, Chang-ho wonders how he will get through the checkpoints without being recognized.

He gets an address texted to him and is almost certain that this is the end of the line, but this is Big Mouse, so he has it all planned. Although they recognize him, they let him through. Chang-ho drives straight to the W Hotel, where he gets a change of clothes waiting for him in a room. Chang-ho, however, is adamant on not letting Big Mouse use him like how he used Jerry – he won’t die a pathetic death.

Meanwhile, Mi-ho lets Hye-jin get out with the hope that she will call her. After she leaves, Gi-gwang and Soon-tae wonder how Chang-ho will contact them since their phones are off. Plus, it’s not like they can keep hiding from the police forever. Just then, Mi-ho comes up with a plan to avoid suspicion but still meet up with Chang-ho.

Anyway, Gi-gwang and Soon-tae destroy Joong-rak’s peace of mind constantly asking the prosecutor to take action and help them find Chang-ho. It’s hilarious watching the corrupt prosecutor not getting a moment of peace, even when he goes to the bathroom. He tells Ji-hoon that there’s no way Chang-ho can get there without getting seen – there are simply too many people there.

Chang-ho, however, does make it there and waits for Mi-ho to check the very smart insurance ad so that she is able to call him. It’s a tearful meeting between the two as Chang-ho tells his wife not to be too worried since he is there now. When Mi-ho informs him that Hye-jin has agreed to help them, he asks her to give him her number – he will take care of everything now.

Meanwhile, Hye-jin calls and tells Ji-hoon that she has Jae-young’s papers and she is ready to hand them over in exchange for Jae-ho’s signature on the divorce papers. If he refuses to cooperate, he will give the papers to Big Mouse. After she disconnects, Hye-jin is seen sitting with Chang-ho. Jae-ho, however, refuses to divorce his wife but Ji-hoon is not someone who takes no for an answer.

 

Big Mouth Episode 8 Ending

As the divide grows among Ji-hoon, Jae-ho, Chae-bong and Du-geun, everyone gets ready for the trial. Chang-ho, looking suave as ever, promises to use the truth to get rid of those who have wronged him, while Soon-tae meets the producer of the podcast who is supposed to expose the truth behind Jae-young’s death.

As the trial starts, with everyone present in the gallery including Mi-ho, the podcast also starts to air. Chang-ho makes a bold entry, and after he introduces himself to the audience, he asks everyone (including us) whether he should predict something about the ongoing trial.

In the epilogue, a young Mi-ho overhears Chang-ho taking half-off milk for his younger siblings in the orphanage, and it seems like the reason why he saved him from her father’s beatings and fell for him in the first place.

As long as we are out of the psych ward, I am happy.

Jokes aside, Big Mouth episode 8, thankfully, doesn’t spend too much time in a white room and instead gives us a shocking and daring escape. Although Chang-ho is excellent in the episode, the real MVP is Mi-ho, who not only gets Hye-jin on her side but also creates an amazing situation where she kills two birds with one stone.

We love ourselves strong, independent and capable female leads who are, in no way, lesser than others around her. In Big Mouth, it’s the princess who constantly saves the prince!

Anyway, the episode was great, with no cliché plot points along with an oddly satisfying cliffhanger of an ending. What happens in the trial is a question for next week but for now, we are happy with where we are.
