The new Mnet variety show features JYP Entertainment on the search for interns. 13 final interns will be selected after the interview round, and they will then compete for the No. 1 spot to become a full-time employee of JYP Entertainment.
During the press conference, JYP Entertainment’s CCO (chief creative officer) Park Jin Young spoke about the company’s growth and what kind of employee they are looking for.
He shared, “It has been 20 years since I have ran this company. We started with three employees. It was me, producer Bang Shi Hyuk, and an accountant, and that was it. Now I have almost 300 co-workers. We have grown about 10 times larger, and this is because the necessary talents came when we needed them.”
Park Jin Young continued, “The talents I received help from would not have been helpful to our company if many of them grew up with rote learning, but we have almost no one like that. We have a lot of people with outrageous imaginations and who are crazy about singers and music. However, as our company grows larger, our employee recruitment system has become similar to that of other companies. The HR team is filtering based on educational background.”
He then explained what kind of employees the company is looking for. “An employee that I need right now is someone who provides outrageous and new ideas. I thought that people like this would might get filtered out through the application phase, which is why I decided to take part in ‘Super Intern.’ Through the process, I found a lot of crazy thoughts through the applications of those who had not passed [previously].”
“It made me think that our company’s HR system has to be evaluated and reformed. It made me wonder how we have to recruit in order to get the crazy and innovative people who may not have been able to build up their qualifications but have lived with passion for dramas, music, and concerts. As I have felt and learned a lot from this program, I think other entertainment companies could also use it as an opportunity to change their thinking,” Park Jin Young revealed.
Mnet’s “Super Intern” is set to premiere on January 24 at 8 p.m. KST.
