Nielsen Korea Unable To Provide Viewership Ratings Due To Widespread Network Failure
Nov 26, 2018
Nielsen Korea was not able to provide drama viewership ratings data for two days.
Previously, a fire broke out in the KT building at Chungjeongno of the Seodaemun District in Seoul. Due to the fire, there was a communication failure in KT’s network. KT is one of Korea’s three largest telecommunications company along with SK Telecom and LG Uplus.
On November 25, Nielsen Korea stated, “Due to the fire at KT’s telecommunication office, we are unable to provide the daily viewership ratings data.”
Nielsen Korea was affected by the communication failure in KT’s network because their office is situated at the neighborhood of Seosomunno, which is near Chungjeongno. The company added, “Not only mobile phones but also high-speed internet, IPTV, internet calls, and LTE are not connecting. Thus we are unable to produce data for TV advertisement monitoring and viewership ratings. We will try to provide the necessary data as early as possible when the network is normalized.”
During the past two days, SBS’s Saturday drama “Ms Ma, Nemesis” and tvN’s weekend drama “Room No. 9” aired its finales. Programs such as MBC’s Saturday drama “A Pledge to God,” OCN’s weekend dram “Priest,” SBS’s variety show “The Fan,” and tvN’s variety show “Desirable Cruise” (literal translation) aired their first episodes.
