Netflix’s new mind-bending survival-game show “The Devil’s Plan” has finally revealed all of its contestants!
Created by producing director Jung Jong Yeon of “The Genius,” “The Great Escape,” and “Girls’ High School Mystery Class,” “The Devil’s Plan” is Jung Jong Yeon’s first Netflix variety show.
On July 26, Netflix officially confirmed the 12 players joining “The Devil’s Plan.” From celebrities, lawyer, doctor, professional Go player, and more, a total of 12 contestants with various occupations will compete to win the ultimate prize of 500 million won (approximately $392,700). The cast includes “Problematic Men” star Ha Seok Jin, Korean professional Go player and a graduate of Singapore’s most prestigious university Jo Yeon Woo, freelance announcer Lee Hye Sung who always ranked first during her school days, actor and inventor Lee Si Won who owns more than 10 patents, and SEVENTEEN’s Seungkwan, a well-known and celebrated idol who is famous for his variety skills and wit.
On top of that, Seo Dong Joo, a lawyer in America with an MBA degree who also graduated from MIT’s Department of Mathematics and a law school, well-loved comedian and actress Park Kyung Lim who won Daesang (Grand Prize) at the age of 23, Guillaume Patry, a Canadian gamer who won the Star League and is now a professional poker player, Kwedo, a former policy advisor to the Blue House with a major in Astronomy and Space Sciences who is now a popular science YouTuber, and Kwak Joon Bin, a travel Youtuber with 1.63 million subscribers who is skilled in various foreign languages were also confirmed to join the show.
Lastly, the show also introduced two contestants who were selected through open recruitment for non-celebrities: Seo Yoo Min, an American orthopedic surgeon, and Kim Dong Jae, a college student who is now a professional poker player.
Describing each contestant’s strength, PD Jung Jong Yeon remarked, “Ha Seok Jin watches over the game and makes cool-headed judgments. At times, he also surprises everyone with his groundbreaking move. Cho Yeon Woo has sharp mind and game skills worthy of her title as an elite Go player. And viewers should anticipate the hard-working Lee Hye Sung who will persevere through her diligence and persistence.”
“Through her creative and bold play, Lee Si Won will show a new side of her that she has never shown before, Seungkwan has immense presence and is a player who will meet your expectations thanks to his many experiences from other programs. Seo Yoo Min, who is fluent in Korean, English, and Spanish, will show an unexpected charm with her immense passion that even brought her [to Korea] from the U.S.”
“Seo Dong Joo is a player with brilliant academic background and extraordinary resume, Park Kyung Lim plays the game most skillfully as someone who has a long career in the broadcasting industry. Kim Dong Jae received the perfect score on the written test for the public [non-celebrity] screening and because he’s a non-celebrity, he has an unpredictable charm. Guillaume was the only foreigner to reach the Korean StarCraft Hall of Fame when he was a professional gamer. He is excellent at unconventional attacks and he’s calm even in crisis.”
Finally, Jung Jong Yeon concluded, “Kwedo will demonstrate a high understanding of any game with his scientific thinking and analysis and will prove that ‘games are also science.’ And Kwak Joon Bin will show off his extraordinary survival ability thanks to his excellent foreign language proficiency, communication skills, and ability to adapt quickly.”
