Sep 18, 2019
Namgoong Min has been confirmed as the male lead in the upcoming baseball-themed drama Stove League, his agency 935 Entertainment revealed on September 18.
A source from the agency also said that Namgoong Min (Doctor Prisoner) participated in the first script reading for the drama “last weekend.”
The Baeksang nominated actor will play the role of Baek Seung-soo, a sports team manager who has had bad luck with the teams he had managed before. Stove League centers on the events following his new job as the general manager of a professional baseball team called Dreams, which is at the bottom of the league ranking and strives to become a stronger team for the next season.
Stove League marks Namgoong Min’s second drama project in 2019. The first one, Doctor Prisoner, aired on KBS2 from March to May and achieved double-digit TV ratings to become the third highest-rated Korean drama in the first half of 2019.
Meanwhile, Park Eun-bin (The Ghost Detective), had previously confirmed her lead role in the series as Lee Se-young, another manager of Dreams who has stayed in the team when everyone else had already left. The only female to ever manage a professional baseball team in Korea, Lee Se-young dedicates her career to pushing Dreams to succeed.
Stove League is directed by Jung Dong-yoon and written by Lee Shin-hwa. It is scheduled to premiere in November on SBS, following the conclusion of Lee Seung-gi and Bae Suzy’s Vagabond.
