Nam Tae Hyun Gives His Honest Advice On Love And Dating

Mar 31, 2019

Nam Tae Hyun recently revealed his secrets to successful relationships.
On March 29, Cosmopolitan Korea posted a video titled “Nam Tae Hyun’s Love Coaching” on its YouTube channel where the singer doled out realistic advice to viewers.
When a reader wrote in that their significant other had asked them to cut off ties with the opposite gender, Nam Tae Hyun said, “This is my personal opinion, but I think that’s nonsense. That’s like telling you to cut off all relationships. I think that’s really unfair. But if your boyfriend really said that, he’s probably really jealous and probably has that kind of personality. But even if you avoid doing things that make him jealous and have no interactions [with the opposite gender], then I think it’s a relationship that’ll be difficult if it lasts for a long time. I don’t think I’d fight, but I think I’d explain in a calm and orderly way.”
After hearing a story about sharing cell phone passcodes, Nam Tae Hyun commented, “It’s good not to touch each other’s cell phones. For each other. Having doubts is unavoidable in a relationship if one’s phone rings when you’re together. You’ll get curious about who it is. But you really shouldn’t share passwords. It’s not because you’re hiding something, but there’s so much room for misunderstandings and you have to explain every single thing. I don’t want to see it either.”
He added, “People who can share it can share it. But for me, I have my schedule, personal things, memos, lyrics that I’ve written down, and audio memos. Those things are honestly a bit embarrassing.”
One person asked if it was okay to ask a boy out if she had a crush on him. “Contrary to what you may think, guys don’t really feel burdened by hearing that you like them,” answered Nam Tae Hyun. “We like it too. Even if they had no interest in you, if you say that, then they could start to like you. But when you’re going to say it, don’t do it like the cat in ‘Shrek’ and say, ‘I like you so much.’ Don’t approach it that way. It could be a natural opportunity like grabbing a drink, or you could be in a café together. Give subtle hints like complimenting them. Express it that way and gradually get closer to them. You could say something like, ‘I think you look sexy when doing that.’ Like women, men can also fall for women when they do that.”

He continued, “I recently filmed a variety show and it’s a show where five women and five men live in a house together. It’s a show where women and men constantly talk about their concerns. They ask this the most—if men feel pressured when women confess their feelings to them. But all of the men there said the same answer, that it’s not burdensome and that they like it. You should feel free to show that you like someone. It’s actually more charming.”
About progressing from a crush to a fling, he said, “I said this on the last episode, but communicating back and forth in itself, men never spend time on things they don’t have an interest in. Men are one-dimensional, as am I. So their actions show right away. You’ll feel it right away if you can’t progress into a fling as well. If you’re asking because there’s potential to become a fling but you don’t know what to do, then it might be a good idea to share each other’s hobbies. If you talk to them, you could talk about each other’s interests. For instance, if he likes a certain game then you should try it too. You can say, ‘I started playing it because you said it was fun. It was really fun. Teach it to me. Let’s meet at a game room.'”
He continued, “Having a fling is continued with the intention of dating. If a guy isn’t saying it first, then he’s keeping plenty of distance to get to know you. If you want to be in a relationship more quickly, then it’s a good idea to appeal to him. Not too directly, but you could grab a drink if you’re in a fling. Be sincere, but don’t say, ‘I like you.’ Say, ‘What would happen if we dated?'”
He concluded, “Expressing yourself is the only way to go from a fling to a relationship.”
“Nam Tae Hyun’s Love Coaching” is a program where the singer listens to readers’ dating stories and uses his philosophy on dating to give realistic and direct solutions. A new episode is uploaded on Fridays afternoons KST on Cosmopolitan Korea’s YouTube channel.
