Jo Yoon Kyung is known for writing the lyrics for SM Entertainment’s idols. Some of her noteworthy works include BoA’s “Listen To My Heart,” Red Velvet’s “Rookie” and “Ice Cream Cake,” SHINee’s “Sherlock,” Girls’ Generation’s “Mr. Mr.,” and EXO’s “Call Me Baby” and “Lotto.”
When asked to pick a track that she cherishes the most, Jo Yoon Kyung named Red Velvet’s “Rookie,” especially the song’s chorus. The lyricist said, “In the demo version of the song, everything was written in English. It was agonizing to determine which part of the lyrics I should emphasize.”
The lyricist named Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon as her favorite idol to work together with. Jo Yoon Kyung said, “She is a vocalist that I can trust because most of her songs turn out to have similar rhythms to what I imagine while writing lyrics.”
Jo Yoon Kyung also named EXO’s Chen as a rookie lyricist that she needs to be on the lookout for. She said, “It’s a good thing that [Chen] is strongly attached to his tracks and full of ambition. I believe that he will become excellent in no time.”
Jo Yoon Kyung concluded the broadcast by sharing her goals. She stated, “I hope that songs I write the lyrics for don’t become old-fashioned to listen to even 10 or 20 years later.”
