In the first season, Han Suk-kyu portrayed the role of genius surgeon Kim Sa-bu, also known among his colleagues as Teacher Kim. Doctor Kim used to work at Seoul’s top hospital but he has disappeared and started working in a small hospital in the countryside where he meets Seo Hyun-jin’s character, who wants to learn from him to become a better surgeon.
In the new season, Lee Sung-kyung will play Cha Eun-jae, a second-year fellow in the cardiosurgery department who has been an elite student in medical school. Ahn Hyo-seop, meanwhile, will be seen playing the role of Seo Woo-jin, also a second-year fellow who has suffered from hardships while growing up and achieving his goal to become a doctor. He is cynical and cold but he is known to have extraordinary concentration and skill in surgery that earn him praises from his professors.
Director Yoo In-sik and writer Kang Eun-kyung, who worked together on the first season, will also lead the production team of Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 2. The series is expected to premiere in January 2020.
