Lee Ji Hoon and Park Ji Hyun have been confirmed to join MBC’s “Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung” (literal title)!
“Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung” is a fictional historical drama that tells the story of women in the 19th century who were frowned upon for writing historical records. The drama will fight against outdated prejudice on the basis of gender and social status and show the value of change. It was previously confirmed that Shin Se Kyung will take on the role of historian Goo Hae Ryung and Cha Eun Woo will take on the role of Prince Yi Rim.
On March 11, G-Tree Creative confirmed, “Lee Ji Hoon has taken on the role of the handsome government official Min Woo Won in ‘Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung.'”
Lee Ji Hoon’s character Min Woo Won is not only well known within the palace, but he is also the youngest son of Joseon dynasty’s most powerful man, Min Ik Pyung. He acts according to his own opinions without relying on his father’s power. Furthermore, he’s an upright character that received a confirmation of his excellence from the King even before taking the state exam.
Recently, Lee Ji Hoon appeared briefly in SBS’s drama “Death Song” as composer and violinist Hong Nan Pa, leaving a strong impression on the viewers with his strong acting skills.
On his thoughts about joining the cast, Lee Ji Hoon shared, “I’m half nervous, half thrilled to be joining a historical drama for the first time in three years. I’m working hard to become Min Woo Won, so please look forward to it.”
Furthermore, actress Park Ji Hyun will be taken on the role of Crown Prince Lee Jin’s personal historian Song Sa Hee. Song Sa Hee had been pressured to take on the role of a homemaker as she the first-born in a family with only daughters. However, she fights against this forced role and boldly places first after taking the historian exam. Afterwards, Song Sa Hee becomes the historian in charge of recording Crowned Prince Lee Jin’s every moment. In the process, she learns about Lee Jin’s hidden loneliness despite his strong appearance, and she unintentionally begins to harbor feelings for him that she shouldn’t possess.
Park Ji Hyun shared, “I’m very emotional to have been cast as the role of Song Sa Hee and to have been granted the opportunity to work with the director and other great senior actors.” She added that she was also looking forward to the drama because she enjoyed reading the script with the unique topic of a female historian. She said, “I’m still lacking in many aspects, but I’ll try my best, and I’ll work hard to produce an interesting drama.”
The actress has worked on various projects such as “Saimdang, Light’s Diary,” “Your Honor,” and “Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum.” As she has shown off her detailed and expressive acting in the past, viewers are excited to see what new charms she’ll deliver in the upcoming drama.
“Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung” is expected to begin airing this July.
