Kang Ji Hwan’s Former Agency Addresses Issue Of Returning Pay From “Joseon Survival” After Sexual Assault Case
Jul 26, 2019
Actor Kang Ji Hwan’s former agency Jellyfish Entertainment has spoken about the payments for his appearance from “Joseon Survival,” which have become an issue after he left the drama midway.
While Kang Ji Hwan was appearing in the drama, he was apprehended on charges of sexual assault, and he then withdrew from the show. There had been plans for “Joseon Survival” to have a 20-episode run, and his arrest occurred when up to episode 10 had aired. Actor Seo Ji Suk was brought in take on Kang Ji Hwan’s role, and the show was shortened to 16 episodes.
Although Kang Ji Hwan’s agency was Huayi Brothers Korea from May to July 2019, he was previously under Jellyfish Entertainment. He signed the contract for “Joseon Survival” when he was with Jellyfish, and the 1.4 billion won (approximately $1.18 million) for his 20-episode acting fee was paid through Jellyfish. Since Kang Ji Hwan only appeared in half of those episodes before his departure, the remaining acting fee needs to be returned.
Regarding this, Jellyfish Entertainment told Xportsnews on July 25, “The acting fee was deposited as actor Kang Ji Hwan was under Jellyfish at the time of his ‘Joseon Survival’ acting contract and the beginning of filming, and we are currently in discussion regarding the acting fee for what was unaired.”
“Joseon Survival” is currently filming after Seo Ji Suk took over Kang Ji Hwan’s role, and the show will be resuming on July 27 after two weeks off air.
On July 25, the prosecution charged Kang Ji Hwan with the criminal charges of quasi-rape and quasi-indecent acts by force.
