K-Pop Artists Sweep 7 Of Top 10 Spots On U.S. List Of Best-Selling CDs Of 2023

Aside from Taylor Swift, all of last year’s best-selling CD albums in the United States were by K-pop artists!

On January 11 local time, American music data tracking firm Luminate (formerly MRC Data), which supplies the data for the Billboard charts, released its year-end list of the best-selling CDs of 2023. The tracking period for the year began on December 30, 2022 and ended on December 28, 2023.

On the list ranking CD sales only (not including digital download albums or any other format), K-pop artists claimed a whopping seven spots out of the top 10. The six K-pop artists who made the 2023 list were Stray Kids, TXT, NewJeans, TWICE, SEVENTEEN, and BTS’s Jungkook.

Stray Kids’ “★★★★★ (5-STAR)” was the United States’ No. 1 best-selling CD album by a group or male artist in 2023—and the No. 2 best-selling CD overall, after Taylor Swift’s “1989 (Taylor’s Version)”—with 520,000 copies sold. Stray Kids also took No. 4 on the list with their latest mini album “ROCK-STAR,” which sold 381,000 copies in the United States.

Meanwhile, TXT’s “The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION” was the No. 3 best-selling CD of the year with 442,000 copies sold in the United States.

NewJeans, the highest-ranking girl group on the list, claimed No. 5 with their latest mini album “Get Up,” which sold 332,000 copies in the United States.

TWICE’s “READY TO BE” made the list at No. 6 with 303,000 copies sold, while SEVENTEEN’s “FML” came in at No. 7 with 288,000 copies sold.

Jungkook, the only male soloist to make the list, took No. 10 with his solo debut album “GOLDEN,” which sold 244,000 CDs in the United States last year.
