Joo Ji Hoon talked about choosing “The Item” as his comeback drama, Jung Il Woo, showing each other support for “Haechi” and “The Item,” and more.
On February 11, upcoming drama “The Item” held a press conference ahead of its premiere, with Joo Ji Hoon, Jin Se Yeon, Kim Kang Woo, Kim Yoo Ri, Park Won Sang, Oh Seung Hoon, and producing director Kim Sung Wook in attendance.
During the press conference, Joo Ji Hoon expressed his thanks at becoming known for continuously starring in hit film after hit film. He commented, “Because people made it that way, I feel as though I have received good energy, so I’m grateful.”
He explained why he chose “The Item” as his comeback drama, saying, “Its large-scale VFX effects are a side dish. In the end, it was charming because it is a story about people’s lives. I decided to do it because I thought it was a story that anyone could relate to.”
Joo Ji Hoon added, “Because there are a lot of VFX effects, a lot of the events you see don’t really happen in the real world, so the actors and production staff painstakingly worked to create it as realistically as possible. I hope it becomes a drama that is very relatable.”
He then thanked Jung Il Woo for his support for “The Item,” as the actor will be starring in SBS’s “Haechi,” which premieres and airs in the same time slot as “The Item.” Joo Ji Hoon made everyone laugh by saying, “I’m close with [Kim] Nam Gil, so I’ll be supporting ‘The Fiery Priest,'” a drama which will be premiering the same week but in a different time slot.
Joo Ji Hoon commented, “In the past, because of the competition between the three public broadcasting stations and cable channels, it felt like we were enemies. But as the world has changed, [people are] supporting each other’s content. I think that it’s fun for the viewers when they are made by different broadcasting stations. There could be programs that are competitors among them, but I think it’s a wonderful source of encouragement to support each other like that. I’m also supporting ‘Haechi.’ I hope that we all do well. It’s become a wonderful world.”
When asked if he hoped ‘The Item’ would do a little better than ‘Haechi,’ he wittily replied, “I think my mother hopes so. Il Woo’s mother will be supporting ‘Haechi.’ I’ve even thought about what it would be like if ‘Haechi’ and ‘The Item’ both achieved good viewership ratings and love, and got together to do a group viewing event.”
“The Item” is about prosecutor Kang Gon (played by Joo Ji Hoon) and criminal profiler Shin So Young (played by Jin Se Yeon). Together, they discover the special powers behind everyday items, and the people whose ambition leads them to covet the items under schemes and secrecy.
“Haechi” is about Prince Yeoning (played by Jung Il Woo), a prince with a low-born mother, who sets out on a journey to claim the throne
“The Item” and “Haechi” will premiere on February 11 at 10 p.m. KST, and will be available on Dramacool!
