tvN’s upcoming drama “Captivating the King” has shared the first glimpse of Jo Jung Suk in character!
Written by Kim Sun Deok of tvN’s “The Crowned Clown,” “Captivating the King” tells the cruel love story between King Yi In (Jo Jung Suk), a miserable king who harbors an emptiness within him despite his high position, and Kang Hee Soo (Shin Se Kyung), whose initial motive of seeking revenge against him transforms into an unexpected attraction.
Jo Jung Suk takes on the role of Yi In, a prince leading a reckless life while grappling with the reality that his unwavering loyalty to his beloved elder brother King Yi Sun (Choi Dae Hoon) is misconstrued as a traitorous act. One day, he encounters and becomes baduk (Go) buddies with the professional baduk player Kang Mong Woo (Shin Se Kyung), marking the beginning of his cruel destiny.
The newly released stills capture the enchanting Prince Yi In, the younger brother of the king. His subtle smile and gentle gaze unveil his youthful allure while simultaneously showcasing his gentle charisma. Notably, one picture depicts him lying on a rock beside a stream and bathed in sunlight, portraying his carefree demeanor as if he has cast away all of his worries.
Another still showcases the inner conflict of his character, who is both indomitable and miserable. Clad in military attire with arrows in his possession, his intense gaze pierces the distance as he stoically endures a fierce rain, foreshadowing the complex and intriguing narrative that awaits.
The production team commented, “With his solid acting skills honed through experience in various genres, Jo Jung Suk continues to craft legendary characters in each project that he does. As he returns to the small screen after three years, viewers can expect to be captivated by Jo Jung Suk’s compelling acting and charm.”
“Captivating the King” will premiere on January 21 with Episodes 1 and 2 airing consecutively.
