Jo Jung Suk and Shin Se Kyung’s upcoming drama “Captivating the King” has unveiled new posters!
Written by Kim Sun Deok of tvN’s “The Crowned Clown,” “Captivating the King” tells the cruel love story between King Yi In (Jo Jung Suk), a miserable king who harbors an emptiness within him despite his high position, and Kang Hee Soo (Shin Se Kyung), whose initial motive of seeking revenge against him transforms into an unexpected attraction.
The newly released first poster captures the evolution of King Yi In and Kang Hee Soo’s relationship, shifting from a fateful attraction to their current state of cautious vigilance.
In the poster, Jo Jung Suk and Shin Se Kyung lock eyes in a picturesque field where cherry blossom petals gracefully dance around them as Prince Yi In and Kang Mong Woo, a woman who disguises herself as a man. Initially meeting while concealing their true identities, the two form a close bond through the game of baduk (Go). The poster highlights the emotional distance between the two characters, portraying a situation where they have no choice but to conceal their affection for each other.
The reverse side of the poster is set against the backdrop of a palace and exudes a darker and more chilling atmosphere. As Yi In now assumes the role of a lonely king and Kang Hee Soo transforms into a determined spy seeking vengeance against him, the palpable tension between them is unmistakable.
Positioned in stark confrontation in another poster, the two characters provide a tantalizing glimpse into the riveting narratives that will unfold. The phrase in the middle of the poster, “When you love them, you wish them to live — when you despise them, you wish them to die,” encapsulates the intricate and multifaceted relationship shared between the two.
“Captivating the King” will premiere on January 21 with Episodes 1 and 2 airing consecutively.
