IZ*ONE’s Choi Ye Na opened up about having lymphoma as a child.
During the November 15 broadcast of Mnet’s “IZ*ONE CHU,” Choi Ye Na brought her parents kimbap (seaweed rice rolls).
The show then cut to an interview where Choi Ye Na talked about having lymphoma as a child.
When asked what she wants to do the most, she said she wants to send her parents on a honeymoon. She explained, “When I was young, I had lymphoma (cancer of the lymphatic system). I was really sick to the point where the hospital told us that there was no hope. Our family wasn’t very well off, and because of the hospital bills, my parents went to sell kimbap every day early in the morning.”
At dinner with her parents, Choi Ye Na’s father said, “You remember that?” and Choi Ye Na responded, “Of course I do. How could I forget?”
Realizing that’s the reason why she brought kimbap, Choi Ye Na’s mother turned to wipe her tears, and her father took a big bite. He said, “Of the kimbap that I’ve had all my life, this not only moves my taste buds, but my heart.”
He continued, “I really thought you didn’t remember, but hearing you say that’s why you brought the kimbap, I’m so touched. Just the fact that you’ve grown up healthy and bright is a huge gift to us.” He added, “It’s just that I haven’t really expressed it, but these days, I feel like I’m flying.”
Passing the kimbap around the table, Choi Ye Na’s father joked, “It tastes good, but you should practice a couple more times.”
