The eighth installment in KBS’s popular “School” drama series, “School 2021” will tell the story of high school students choosing to follow their dreams instead of just preparing for college entrance exams. The coming-of-age tale will follow the growth, friendships, and romances of 18-year-olds facing an uncertain future.
WEi’s Kim Yo Han will star in the drama as Gong Ki Joon, a former Taekwondo athlete who must give up on his dream due to an injury, while Cho Yi Hyun will play his first love Jin Ji Won, who is determined to achieve her dream of becoming a carpenter.
Hwang Bo Reum Byeol plays the cold-hearted and intelligent Kang Seo Young. She learned about the harsh truth of reality from an early age, and she fights to enter one of Korea’s top five universities.
Regarding her character, Hwang Bo Reum Byeol shared, “If you take a quick look at Kang Seo Young, she seems unfriendly, but she’s delicate on the inside. I feel as if these three-dimensional aspects are a character’s charm. While acting as Kang Seo Young, there were many painful moments and I felt pity, so I think my affection towards the role is growing.”
The actress continued, “I don’t think Kang Seo Young is truly adult-like and independent. She grew up in an environment in which she had no choice but to be mature and independent, so I felt that she’s rather a child who needs someone to rely on more than anyone else. I’m putting more care into portraying these moments of showing Kang Seo Young’s childlike and weak self.”
Hwang Bo Reum Byeol also talked about her similarities with Kang Seo Young. She explained, “A similarity is that we look mature on the outside, but the biggest difference is that while I empathize and comfort someone when they tell me their worries, Kang Seo Young explains the facts and suggests a solution.”
“School 2021” will premiere on November 17 at 9:30 p.m
