Heartbeat (2023) K Drama Episode 7

Jul 17, 2023

The drama follows half-human, half-vampire Seon Woo-hyul who desperately wants to become a human but missed his chance to switch due to unfortunate circumstances. Meanwhile, Joo In-hae, having lived a difficult life since she was young, is a cold-hearted high-school nurse who owns a guest house. Thanks to certain events, they start to share a house together which changes both of their lives for the better and makes them a little more human than they started out with.

Ok Taec-yeon was last seen in 2022’s Blind, wherein he played the role of Ryu Sung-joon while Won Ji-an’s last role was as Ha Joon-kyung in 2022’s If You Wish Upon Me. Heartbeat takes over KBS2’s Monday-Tuesday 9:50 PM timeslot previously occupied by My Perfect Stranger, starring Kim Dong-wook and Jin Ki-joo.

Heartbeat episode 7 starts with Woo-hyeol hugging a very confused Hae-won as soon as he sees her outside his house and thanks her for finding him, just like she had promised all those years ago. Unfortunately, Hae-won doesn’t remember him, and he asks her if she really doesn’t remember him. A frazzled In-hae tries to do damage control and tells her that he is joking and that it’s his odd overseas humour. She further asks Woo-hyeol to “calm down” and that he went a little overboard. Unfortunately, Woo-hyeol is still shocked at Hae-won’s sudden arrival and her inability to recognise him.

Later on, In-hae checks up on Woo-hyeol, who is reminiscing about his time with Hae-sun and comforts him. He mopes that although Hae-sun kept her promise, he failed to become human. In-hae, feeling guilty, apologises to him, and they continue talking about Hae-sun and her reincarnation. She, however, tells him to put himself in her shoes and mentions that she must’ve felt confused with his sudden demeanour.

The next day, Dong-seop and Sang-hae try to figure out who could’ve taken Woo-hyeol’s buried gold and the latter suspects Butler Joo. However, in the midst of this discussion, Woo-hyeol walks in and asks them not to speak ill of the dead. Funnily, Sang-hae tells Woo-hyeol that he should’ve left the gold with them, and Dong-seop mentions that they would have definitely finished all of it. After a moment’s thought, Sang-hae hilariously agrees with him.

Anyway, Woo-hyeol finally tells them that Hae-sun visited the house, and everyone is left feeling a little sad about Woo-hyeol’s condition. Back at home, even In-hae feels Woo-hyeol’s heartbreak and grows anxious and brings him something to eat. He is taken aback by her kindness, and she eventually mentions that they should meet Hae-won since she wants to invest in the business, and he should also apologise for his earlier behaviour.

Woo-hyeol agrees with In-hae’s decision and mentions that it is unfair of him to drop in on her sorted life and change everything. He doesn’t want to cause Hae-sun pain, especially because he couldn’t become human for her. To this, In-hae asks him to think of her as Hae-won instead since she doesn’t remember her past life. Later on, Yang-nam warns Woo-hyeol to quickly turn into a human since it is dangerous to stay in between the two. Thus he asks her to fasten the process and to make In-hae fall in love as soon as possible.

The next day, seeing In-hae stressed, Woo-hyeol calls and berates Do-sik for not sharing In-hae’s burdens and leaving her to fend for herself. Do-sik takes his advices and takes In-hae out to look at furniture, leaving her giggling. At the store, the two of them have a great time choosing furniture together and are even mistaken for a newlywed couple. In-hae seems to have really opened up in front of Do-sik and then also end up getting a bite to eat together.

Meanwhile, at home, Woo-hyeol, Dong-seop and Sang-hae go through the house in order to find out what happened to the gold bars. After a rather confusing search, Sang-hae tells them that it must’ve been Yang-nam after he finds a cat hair on the floor. Although Woo-hyeol doesn’t want to believe him, he is still left suspicious. Elsewhere, In-hae and Do-sik talk about Hae-won, and she ends up asking him about her ideal type. He is unable to give her the answer, unfortunately, and she then tells him that she will be inviting Hae-won to meet and chat and invites him as well.

When In-hae reaches home, she is baffled to find the three vampires feasting on ox blood ice cream! She demands to know why two other vampires are sitting in her home without her permission, and, flanked by his friends, Woo-hyeol tries to use his voice for the first time against her. However, that doesn’t last too long, and the three of them slither away quickly to not fall under In-hae’s wrath!

Later, Woo-hyeol promises not to spring his friends on In-hae in the future and gets extremely excited when she mentions asking Hae-won to the house over the weekend. Hae-won, in the meantime, can’t stop thinking about Woo-hyeol and wonders whether she has some other connection with him. Thus, when she gets the call, she is excited as well. When the plans are made, In-hae trains Woo-hyeol to act appropriately in front of Hae-won so as not to make her uncomfortable and also give up his true identity.

As Saturday arrives, Woo-hyeol looks dashing but quite tense. Before going out, In-hae perfects his look, which takes him by surprise, and he finds a soft corner for her. As he looks into her eyes, she allows him to look at his reflection all he wants, but he simply calls her eyes beautiful, surprising her. Just then, Do-sik and Hae-won arrive, and after some cute pleasantries, Woo-hyeol takes Hae-won on a tour of the house.

After a whole lot of flirting, they all sit down to eat, which turns into a different affair on its own since Woo-hyeol can’t drink, and he isn’t eating either. Hae-won nudges him to do so, and In-hae gets increasingly more distressed, wondering what will happen if he does end up drinking the wine. Insanity soon ensues with a peeled shrimp as Woo-hyeol is tasked to eat it by Hae-won, and In-hae tries her hardest to stop him from doing so.

Heartbeat Episode 7 Ending
Unfortunately, he does eat the shrimp and then loses his mind when he realises how good it tastes. This results in him eating a shrimp from Do-sik’s hand, meant for In-hae. Unfortunately, he eats the entire plate of shrimp, much to a very awkward situation and then gets way too drunk and starts to spew stuff about Hae-sun. In-hae escorts him out and then hits him across the face to get him to sober up a bit, and he then promptly falls asleep on her shoulder.

When he comes to, he apologises for his behaviour and goes inside the house, leaving In-hae confused. When they go inside, the light over Hae-won short circuits and startles her and Woo-hyeol rushes towards her at superhuman speed to help her and, in a bid to stop Do-sik from witnessing Woo-hyeol’s vampire abilities, In-hae pulls Do-sik to her. In the end, both couples are left staring into each other’s eyes.

Heartbeat Episode 7 Review
Heartbeat episode 7 is quite heartfelt but will leave you wondering whom Woo-hyeol will end up with! At this point, he seems to be drawn to both the women, although the past is clutching onto him with a vice grip. Regardless, Woo-hyeol’s introspection and relationship with Hae-won as well as his deepening relationship with In-hae is interesting to watch. Ok Taec-yeon is also quite goofy when he wants to be, and him eating that shrimp like a madman was honestly quite funny.

However, as the episodes creep towards the end, the comedy bits are dying down slowly, and we get into more serious moments. Woo-hyeol’s humanity is going to be quite the topic of conversation in the upcoming future and what can be defined as love. Either way, I think this is going to be an interesting conversation for the future as well as the little mystery of the lost gold. Personally, though, the show works best when it’s not trying to be very serious. Its goofiness just works in the context.
