In a recent interview and pictorial for Harper’s Bazaar Korea magazine, Go Kyung Pyo dished on his role in the new drama “Connect”!
Based on the webtoon of the same name, “Connect” is a horror sci-fi thriller starring Jung Hae In as Dong Soo, who looks like an ordinary human on the outside but actually possesses an immortal body. When he loses one of his eyes after getting kidnapped by organ hunters, he discovers that he can still see out of his missing eye—and that it has been transplanted to a serial killer (played by Go Kyung Pyo).
When asked why he had decided to star in “Connect,” Go Kyung Pyo replied, “It was a type of character I’d never played before, and I was drawn to the idea of working with amazing people like director Takashi Miike and actors Jung Hae In and Kim Hye Joon. There was no reason for me to say no.”
The actor also heaped praise on “Connect” director Takashi Miike, noting, “He’s someone who, without being overly explanatory, looks deep inside characters who find themselves in a given situation. He knows how to tackle new universes.”
As for his approach to the character of Oh Jin Seob, a psychopath who enjoys making art out of his corpses, Go Kyung Pyo remarked, “For this character, he’s not hurting others simply because he feels no guilt or because he’s a narcissist. To him, [hurting others] is something obvious, a given, like eating food when you’re hungry or drinking water when you’re thirsty.”
“It’s like inside the shell of this character, a—how should I put it?—a foreign entity whose thought process is entirely different from ordinary people has taken root,” he continued. “I wanted to avoid cliché portrayals [of the character] as much as possible. Instead, I acted entirely as Oh Jin Seob.”
