The staff at Billboard have released their picks for the 50 best songs of the year thus far, and both FIFTY FIFTY and BTS’s Jimin made the list!
On June 21 local time, Billboard published its midyear roundup of “The 50 Best Songs of 2023 So Far,” which spans many different genres.
FIFTY FIFTY’s viral hit “Cupid” took No. 10 on the list, with Billboard’s Paul Grein praising it as “this year’s most delectable piece of ear candy—a song that seamlessly blends elements of contemporary K-pop with American girl group and bubblegum pop of the ’60s.”
Grein went on to note, “This charmer set a new record as the longest-charting K-pop girl group song on the Hot 100, a record previously held by BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez’s 2020 confection ‘Ice Cream.'”
Meanwhile, Jimin’s chart-topping solo debut track “Like Crazy” made the list at No. 30. Tetris Kelly wrote, “In the U.S., the K-pop phenomenon is still something that has been mostly associated in the mainstream with groups—at least, until Jimin crashed the charts. The BTS alum released a slick and melodic dance-pop number that made history as the first track from a South Korean solo artist to top the Billboard Hot 100.
“After a large sales debut, the track continued to gain momentum as radio and the public jumped on board with the undeniable bop, which is driving more than just longtime fans ‘crazy’ in 2023.”
Congratulations to both FIFTY FIFTY and Jimin!
