Female celebrities have voiced their support for Koreaâs revised abortion law.
On April 11, the Korean Constitutional Court ruled that the current law banning abortion except in certain cases is unconstitutional and determined that it is unconstitutional to punish a woman for having an abortion or a doctor for performing an abortion.
Later that day, Sulli shared the hashtag âApril 11, 2019, abortion ban will be overturned,â and also remarked, âIt is an honorable day! Choice for all women.â
Jaurimâs Kim Yoon Ah tweeted, âSisters, congratulations! I love you!â
Actress Son Soo Hyun shared on her Instagram, âSomething obvious has finally come to be. Abortion being illegal is now unconstitutional. Hooray! Congratulations to all women, you have all worked hard!â along with the hashtag, âLegalize abortion.â
She continued, âDirector Agnes Vardaâs âOne Sings, the Other Doesnâtâ (1976). The first time I watched this film was coincidentally the same day my friend participated in a protest to abolish the ban on abortion. The voices of the woman who sang and the woman who didnât sing in 1976 have held true until today. It has been this long.â
Model and actress Lee Young Jin shared a photo that reads, âApril 11, 2019, the Constitutional Court announced ban on abortion is unconstitutional,â along with the hashtag, âWe did it, the end of illegal abortion.â
Columnist and television personality Kwak Jung Eun shared the hashtags âunconstitutional,â âthe right for women to make choices,â âpersonal rights,â and âbasic human rights.â
