Episode 6 of Castaway Diva begins with Woo-hak leaving to go and investigate Ki-ho’s father. Bo-geol tries to question his brother but he decides to “protect his sources”. We’ve said before last episode how dumb this is to go after a psychopath alone, but there we go.
While Mok-ha doesn’t get much from the boys’ mother, Woo-hak and Bo-geol talk. The latter promises to tell him everything when they leave. And as they stand together, we cut back in time and see the two brothers together. They both work to hide from their father, who returns drunk demanding Ki-ho show himself.
When he does, Ki-ho stands up to his father who lashes out at his brother, who happens to be called Chae-ho. Ki-ho tells him he’s been saving money to leave, but Bong-wan is relentless, claiming that even if they’re starving on the streets, they’d still be happier than with him.
When Bong-wan grabs a chair and swings, Bo-geol’s narration claims that he lost all his memories when he woke up after being struck in the head. However, it still doesn’t say whether he’s actually Ki-ho or not. One would assume that this is probably Chae-ho, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Woo-hak is desperate to go to the police and reveal their true names and let their father come to him. However, Bo-geol refuses, reinforcing that their entire family will be destroyed if they do.
Meanwhile, Mok-ha wakes up from a bad dream back on the island of a boar chasing after her. Downstairs, Woo-hak awakens early and decides to make breakfast for them all. This is, of course, a direct contrast to episode 2 where he was the one getting up late and not bothering. Bo-geol teases his brother, telling him he should do the laundry too while he’s at it.
In secret, the boys’ mother, Song Ha-jung, worriedly tells Bo-geol that she may have said too much to Mok-ha. While they contemplate their next move, Hwang rings Ran-joo with the good news. Apparently there’s some high demand for her album sales.
As she dances about, Woo-hak shows up wanting to talk to Mok-ha. He lies outright to her, claiming that he’s happily married. He also hands over the USB stick from the past too, claiming that Ki-ho is just “so-so” and he’s operating from afar. Mok-ha has her doubts over the validity of this story though.
As for Woo-hak, he learns about what happened to Dae-woong. As he wonders what this means, Ki-ho’s father happens to be going through the dashcam footage, desperate to find his son. Bong-wan unfortunately overhears word of Ki-ho being happy and moving on, along with word of Mok-ha being involved.
Ran-joo is on fire with her album sales, and she only has 40,000 left to make to reach her target. President Lee is obviously sweating over this, and brings out his trump card, Mo-rae. She’s back and there’s going to be a match-up between them as they square off (on the microphone, not in the ring). The decision is already made, but when Mok-ha finds out, she’s not particularly happy. Mo-rae has 40 million followers online so it seems like a sure-fire thing that she’ll win.
Outside, Bo-geol stops by and hands over a napkin for Mok-ha after berating her inside the meeting. Mok-ha is confused by this hot and cold attitude and eventually storms off. As for Ran-joo, she heads to the doctor and learns that there’s actually nothing physically wrong with her voice now. Ran-joo is still concerned though as she doesn’t know if she can hit the high notes.
There’s no love lost between Mo-rae and Ran-joo though, with the former wanting to release Mok-ha’s single as her own. Since then, Mo-rae has taken it personally that she’s the substitute to Mok-ha. Now, in the future, with Mo-rae taking advantage of this, she intends to slaughter Ran-joo in this live performance.
That night, Mok-ha speaks to Bo-geol and tells him that he’s definitely not Ki-ho. Although he’s okay with it, he suddenly turns and demands to know why. The pair trade fiery retorts before Mok-ha bounces across to Woo-hak instead.
As the big show goes ahead, the executive producer ends up taken to hospital as her appendix bursts. That leaves Bo-geol to be in charge. He’s told to make “Mo-rae look good” but of course we know that he’s more on Ran-joo’s side. Either way, Ran-joo arrives at the studio and sees a wave of Mo-rae’s supporters out front.
Instead of shying away, Mok-ha encourages her to step up and be infront of all the fans. In the midst of this, Mo-rae shows and intentionally takes the limelight away from her opponent. She also meets Mok-ha for the first time too, and is certainly taken aback by her presence.
Inside, there’s another fiery encounter between her and Mo-rae, and with Producer Park hovering in the background with his phone, Mok-ha keeps her cool and doesn’t let her guard down. Instead, she tells Mo-rae that she seems anxious and will acknowledge her talent if she beats Ran-joo fair and square.
Elsewhere, Woo-hak speaks to his father and claims that he’s got his memory back now. He wants to know the truth about his upbringing. At the same time, Bo-geol makes a bombshell announcement ahead of this performance on TV. It turns out it’s not going to be a lip-sync contest after all, it’s going to be a live performance.
Mo-rae is not happy and makes a knee-jerk reaction that she’s not going to perform. Bo-geol knows if she refuses then it’ll look bad with the reporters outside, so she’s put in a tough position. Similarly though, he also wants Mok-ha to go up and be honest over who has been singing all this time.
Now that sounds like something Ki-ho would do, doesn’t it? If there were ever any doubts over this before I think it’s safe to say that Bo-geol is our man. He’s there to help Mok-ha and it’s clear that he wants her to succeed but to do this right.
The trouble is, will Ran-joo actually concede this and allow Mok-ha to take her place? This will almost certainly cause a conflict between the two, especially with the current drama involving Mo-rae, whom we see properly here.
Meanwhile, we’ve got the drama involving Ki-ho’s father and what’s happening there, along with how it ties into the brothers. It would seem, given the way the flashbacks have been playing out, that the brothers have basically switched places. Chae-ho was the one struck, rather than his brother, and that’s why Bo-geol is so adamant they don’t get the police involved.
