BTOB’s Yook Sungjae will be starring in MBC’s new drama “Golden Spoon” (literal translation)!
Last week, it was revealed that Yook Sungjae was in talks to star in the webtoon-based drama. This will be the first project he has chosen to star in since his discharge from the military earlier this month.
The drama is based on a webtoon of the same name and tells the story about a child born from a poor family who uses a mysterious golden spoon to switch fates with a friend born from a wealthy family. The webtoon was serialized on Naver in June 2016 and concluded in 2018 with a total of 106 chapters. “Golden Spoon” was praised for tossing out difficult and meaningful questions such as what would bring more happiness between money and family.
In the upcoming drama, Yook Sungjae will be playing student Lee Seung Chun, who dreams of turning his life around with the golden spoon. Viewers are looking forward to seeing Yook Sungjae’s transformation, especially since he was one of the actors chosen by various fan communities to play the role. He has impressed with his acting skills in previous dramas such as tvN’s “Goblin,” JTBC’s “Mystic Pop-Up Bar,” and more. Unlike in the webtoon, the main character will be a high school student in the drama.
“Golden Spoon” will be produced by director Song Hyun Wook of “The King’s Affection,” “Another Oh Hae Young,” “Beauty Inside,” and “Graceful Friends,” and penned by Kim Eun Hee and Yoon Eun Kyung who wrote “Winter Sonata,” “Sweet 18,” and “Prime Minister and I.” Samhwa Networks, the production company behind “The Fiery Priest,” “Dr. Romantic 2,” and “Now We Are Breaking Up,” and Studio N of “Strangers from Hell,” “True Beauty,” “Sweet Home,” and “Yumi’s Cells” will be in charge of production.
MBC’s upcoming drama “Golden Spoon” is slated to premiere in the second half of 2022.
