Ahn Bo Hyun And Park Ji Hyun Talk About Playing A Chaebol Heir And His Detective Partner In “Flex X Cop”

In a recent interview and pictorial for Harper’s Bazaar Korea, Ahn Bo Hyun and Park Ji Hyun dished on their upcoming drama “Flex x Cop”!

“Flex x Cop,” which marks the reunion of former “Yumi’s Cells” co-stars Ahn Bo Hyun and Park Ji Hyun, will tell the story of an immature third-generation chaebol heir who winds up becoming a detective.

Park Ji Hyun will star in the drama as workaholic detective and team leader Lee Kang Hyun, whose world is turned upside down when the inexperienced chaebol heir Jin Yi Soo (Ahn Bo Hyun) unexpectedly joins her team as a new cop.

Noting that Lee Kang Hyun was very different from her past characters, Park Ji Hyun remarked with a laugh, “My last project was ‘Reborn Rich,’ and even in my historical dramas, I frequently played the role of the daughter of Joseon’s richest family. This role was different from the other characters I’d played before, and even the character’s tone and manner were the polar opposite [of my previous roles], so this drama was like a new challenge for me. When I happened upon a slightly more realistic line of dialogue or more realistic action, I felt a certain thrill and joy. Although I went through a lot of trial and error, I really learned a lot on this filming set.”

Ahn Bo Hyun similarly shared that Jin Yi Soo was a new kind of character for him, recalling, “As soon as I read the script for ‘Flex x Cop,’ I felt confident that I could become Yi Soo and have fun playing him in the drama. On one hand, the role was a new type of challenge for me.”

“n terms of [the character’s] styling, I thought, ‘Instead of a chaebol heir with a luxurious vibe, wouldn’t there also be chaebol heirs who are like immature children?’” he continued. “When I first presented my interpretation of Jin Yi Soo, I felt happy because the director, writer, and staff all praised it as a perfect match, and I think that’s why I was able to transform [into the character] with confidence.”

As for how “Flex x Cop” differs from other dramas in the same genre, Ahn Bo Hyun commented, “Rather than the conclusion, I think the exhilaration and fun come during the process of solving a case. I think viewers will probably snort to themselves in disbelief while watching. For example, during the middle of an investigation, Jin Yi Soo will suddenly bring out his helicopter. I think you’ll be able to feel a thrill while watching Yi Soo, whose mindset is ‘In order to catch the culprit, I’m going to flex all of the resources I have.’”
