When Seo Kang Joon announced his military enlistment date, the sounds of hearts breaking could be heard from all over the world. Seo Kang Joon brought joy and a heartwarming presence to the industry that will definitely be missed for a couple of years. While we await his return, here are some K-dramas of his to check out if you haven’t already.
“Cheese in the Trap” is based on the successful webtoon written by Soonkki. The story involves college students who get entangled in a love triangle. Kim Go Eun plays Hong Seol, Park Hae Jin plays Yoo Jung, and Seo Kang Joon plays Baek In Ho. Yoo Jung is the first to confess his feelings to Hong Seol, and without putting much thought into it, she accepts his confession, and they start to date. Meanwhile, Seol has gotten very close to In Ho, who is Jung’s sworn enemy. Seol is constantly caught in the middle, and this acts as a huge stress factor for her.
Many fans of “Cheese in the Trap” will know the second-lead syndrome that was very much apparent with Baek In Ho. The charm and sincerity in which In Ho loves Hong Seol is one of the most swoon-worthy parts of the series, and there is no question he is one of the greatest second leads in K-drama history. On top of his undying love for Seol, viewers see a transformation in his personality as he goes from being a bad boy to someone who wants to be happy and try harder to succeed in life. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing a bad boy change.

“Entourage” is a Korean remake of the American hit series of the same title. It stars Seo Kang Joon as Cha Yeong Bin, an actor who has shot to stardom. He has a group of best friends who are always around him and getting into trouble as well as taking full advantage of the fame that comes with their best friend Yeong Bin. They support Yeong Bin whenever he is going through struggles as an actor who is new to fame.
One of the most memorable parts of the series (besides that kiss scene with Ahn So Hee) is seeing the chemistry between all the unbelievable actors in this series. You’ll hardly ever come across a cast as stellar as this; with Lee Kwang Soo, Lee Dong Hwi, and Park Jung Min, the interaction between these actors is enough reason alone to tune in to this series! Also, did I mention that steamy kiss scene?

Seo Kang Joon plays Ohn Joon Young and Esom plays Lee Young Jae. The two play a couple who are in a relationship for over 12 years. The series shows how the two meet, fall in love, and go through obstacles after having been together for so long.
You get a classic Cinderella-esque storyline with Seo Kang Joon in this particular series which is a delight to watch. When he is younger, he is a good student who does not care much about his physical appearance or fashion. He meets Young Jae on a blind date, who is the total opposite of him. The two form a strong bond despite their differences, and seeing Seo Kang Joon transform throughout the series is both hilarious and heartwarming.
Watch him transform from this:
To this:
Nam Shin (Seo Kang Joon) is the son of an elite and wealthy family. After an unfortunate accident, he falls into a coma, and his mother creates a robot that looks exactly like him and names him Nam Shin III. The robot learns human mannerisms and takes the place of Nam Shin who is bedridden.

If anyone could play a perfect-looking robot, it’s Seo Kang Joon. This series is romantic but also hilarious, and it’s fun to watch Nam Shin III try to act like a human and adapt to human life. The relationships he builds with friends and Kang So Bong (Gong Seung Yeon) are enjoyable, and seeing the progression of a robot falling in love with a human is one that can’t be missed as it eventually becomes very touching and emotional.
“Hwajung” stars Cha Seung Won as Prince Gwanghae, the son of a concubine, and the series showcases the rise and fall of Princess Jeongmyeong (Lee Yeon Hee). Seo Kang Joon plays Hong Joo Won, the son of a family in the Joseon Dynasty. Joo Won falls in love with Princess Jeongmyeong and also experiences betrayal in the series. He tries to fix the problems of the society he is living in.
Seo Kang Joon suits the role of a prince very well with the ability to showcase nobility and elegance very well. His character is a genius, witty, and stands up for what he believes is right. This side of his character is very admirable and suits him, fighting for those who are helpless with his charisma and sword in hand. So very swoon-worthy!
Do Chi Kwang (Han Suk Kyu), Kim Young Koon (Seo Kang Joon), Han Tae Joo (Kim Hyun Joo) have all experienced great tragedy in their lives. They all become part of an investigation team where they are trying to expose corruption within the police.
You’ll get a side of Seo Kang Joon that is charismatically rough and tough that will undoubtedly tickle your fancy. His role as Young Koon has a past that is a bit darker than the ones he has played in the past, which is intriguing. You’ll also find yourself drawn into uncovering the mystery of a traumatic experience that happened to him when he was much younger. Seo Kang Joon has many sides to his acting abilities that he is able to showcase in this particular series. It’s underrated and definitely worth watching, especially if you’re into crime/mystery and a fan of Seo Kang Joon!

“What Happens to My Family” is a weekend series starring a stellar cast including Yoo Dong Geun, Kim Hyun Joo, Yoon Park, Park Hyung Sik, and Seo Kang Joon. This is one of Seo Kang Joon’s earlier roles, and he plays Yoon Eun Ho, an idol who becomes a restaurant owner. Although a rookie actor at the time, Seo Kang Joon does a great job of showing the emotions of his character and the one-sided love he has for Kang Seo Wool (Nam Ji Hyun).
Seeing Eun Ho court Seo Wool and wear his heart on his sleeve for her is very endearing. His character is so adorable, and seeing how he much he loves Seo Wool and how much he does for her is more than enough of a reason to watch the series. His confidence is smooth when it comes to winning the heart of country gal Seo Wool, so you’re in store for some very cringe-worthy but sweet lines.
And if you’ve watched all of these dramas, do not fret. Seo Kang Joon will be appearing in the series titled “Grid” alongside Kim Ah Joong in 2022. Hang in there, Seo Kang Joon fans! The time will fly, and he will be back in no time.
