8 K-Drama Male Leads We Wish We Lived Next Door To

Apr 18, 2019

What are your neighbors like? Maybe you know them well and you guys hang out all the time, or maybe you wouldn’t recognize them in a lineup. Either way, the chances of living next door to a hot, charming neighbor who brightens your day with their smile are approximately… one in a bazillion?
That’s why we have K-dramas, folks! To give us the wish-fulfillment real life falls short on. So with that in mind, if you had to pick a drama character to live next door to, who would it be? A lot of K-drama male leads are swoon-worthy, for sure, but their crazy antics would be annoying as hell on a daily basis. Here’s a selection of characters who’d make perfect neighbors – the ones we’d love to run into while collecting the mail.

1. Nam Shin III in “Are You Human Too?”

Lee Jong Suk
Why live next door to a human when you could live next door to a robot? Nam Shin III (Seo Kang Joon) is the definition of a reliable neighbor. He would always remember to put out the trash and keep the yard clean. If you ever need to borrow a cup of sugar, he’d give it to you with a smile on his face. Okay, well, maybe not sugar because he doesn’t actually eat, but perhaps, hmm, engine oil?
Lee Jong Suk
Whatever, just pretend you need to borrow something and go over there for the sake of that smile alone. Nam Shin III will never not answer the door, even at 2 in the morning, and you’ll never be a bother. He is literally programmed to not find you annoying, ever. Perfect!

2. Yoon Dong Ha in “A Witch’s Romance

Lee Jong Suk
Dong Ha’s (Park Seo Joon) profession is “Do Anything Guy.” As in, people pay him to do their random fixing, fetching, and carrying. If your drains are making a weird noise or there’s something living in your roof, Dong Ha’s your man! And because he’s such an utter sweetheart, he’d definitely accept payment in the form of home-cooked meals. You’re neighbors, after all!
Lee Jong Suk
Dong Ha’s the kind of guy who brings your Amazon parcels out of the rain and knocks on your door with porridge when you’re sick. He’ll invite you over for Christmas if you’ve got nowhere to go and he’ll even argue with your landlord on your behalf. He’s the hero every neighborhood needs, with a face like Park Seo Joon’s as the cherry on top.

3. Ahn Dan Tae in “Dear Fair Lady Kong Shim

Lee Jong Suk
Sometimes, after a long hard day at work, all you want to do is kick your shoes off and laugh your face off with your funniest friend over a pile of convenience store snacks. Ahn Dan Tae (Namgoong Min) is that friend. When you live next door to him, like Kong Shim (Minah) does, you’ll find him waiting outside your door, full of questions about your day and hilarious reaction faces for all your stories.
Lee Jong Suk
If your bathroom gets flooded, your sister steals your crush, or your boss gives you the axe, call Dan Tae. He may not have the faintest clue what to do about it, but he’ll definitely make you feel better. He’ll take you the movies, buy you street food or chase you round an adventure playground. Even when his own problems loom large, he always has time to bring you a little sunshine.

4. Seo Poong in “Wok of Love

Lee Jong Suk
A neighbor who cooks delicious food is the best kind of neighbor. Seo Poong (Junho) is a Michelin-star-worthy chef who lives and breathes gourmet. But he’s not the snooty sort who’s going to make you pay through the nose for a snack the size of a teaspoon. Nope, Poong’s mission is to bring high-end food to the masses. Of course, friends and neighbors get a sneak preview.
Lee Jong Suk
Behind his slightly gruff exterior, Poong is a generous, caring soul. His first question will always be, “Have you eaten?” Take our advice and always say, “no.” Even if you’re full, you won’t want to turn down one of his extraordinary creations, magicked up on the spot with whatever he found in your kitchen.

5. Yoo So Joon in “Tomorrow With You

Lee Jong Suk
There are a lot of perks to having a time-traveling neighbor like So Joon (Lee Je Hoon) – firstly, all those amazing souvenirs from the future lying around his house! If you want to taste next year’s hottest ramyun flavor, head on over to So Joon’s place. It makes him a great gift-giver too. Forget what’s new this season – he’ll be bringing you trend pieces from the season after next.
Lee Jong Suk
As a real-estate mogul who makes all his money through sneak peeks at next week, So Joon doesn’t even have to work if he doesn’t want to (which he usually doesn’t). That means he’s always around to play when you’re bored. If he’s time-traveling, there might even be two of him around to keep you entertained!

6. Yoo Si Jin in “Descendants of the Sun

Lee Jong Suk
A Neighborhood Watch Association is nice, but let’s face it, no amount of community-minded old ladies will ever be a match for Yoo Si Jin (Song Joong Ki). He’s the kind of neighbor who makes sure you feel safe walking around at night. Whether you’re dealing with armed robbers or natural disaster, he’ll always know what to do and he’ll even throw in a few wisecracks while he’s busy saving your life.
Lee Jong Suk
Even on an average day, Yoo Si Jin is a good neighbor to have around. He can hold his drink, for one thing, so he’ll make sure you get home safe after a big night out. Moms and grandmas love him, so he makes a great alibi if you’re getting up to no good. And one unexpected bonus? He’s out a lot (y’know, saving the world) so you can have all the loud parties you want, he won’t care! Well, he might be a little miffed he wasn’t invited.

7. Park Hoon in “Doctor Stranger

Lee Jong Suk
What could be more convenient than living next door to a genius doctor? Forget spending the whole day waiting around in the ER. Just hop next door and show Park Hoon (Lee Jong Suk) that rash! You’ll save a bunch on medical bills too. Hoon honed his skills in North Korea, never turning away a patient. A sweetheart like that will only charge what you can afford.
Lee Jong Suk
Not only is he great at doctoring, but Hoon is also the friend who’s always there with a reality check when you need it. He gives great advice without sugar-coating things, and he’s been through so much that you know you can believe in his wisdom. You might have to put up with a bit of merciless teasing, but hey, it’s a small price to pay. Who wouldn’t want a Park Hoon right next door?

8. Kang Bok Soo in “My Strange Hero

Lee Jong Suk
If Bok Soo (Yoo Seung Ho) was your neighbor, he would always become your hero without thinking twice about it. He’s a champion of the weak and defender of the innocent, basically incapable of walking past a fight without getting in the middle and trying to find a solution. He goes above and beyond, even for perfect strangers, and before you know it you guys would be best friends.
Lee Jong Suk
It goes both ways, though. When Bok Soo needs help for his next crusade, you bet he’ll be asking you along. It might sound scary, but don’t be afraid! When he shoves you out of your comfort zone, you’ll find the rewards are great. Then when the battle is won, you guys can meet back at his place to devour his mom’s Chinese food. Double win!
