Even before its premiere, tvN’s upcoming drama “Memories of the Alhambra” already has viewers guessing!
“Memories of the Alhambra” is a new “suspense-romance” drama starring Hyun Bin as Yoo Jin Woo, a brilliant investment firm CEO who travels to Spain on business and ends up staying at an old hostel in Granada. Park Shin Hye will star as Jung Hee Joo, the owner of the hostel, while EXO’s Chanyeol will play her younger brother Jung Se Joo, a genius programmer who seems to live in his own world. The drama will follow the characters’ unbelievable journey as they get swept up in a series of mysterious events that occur at the hostel.
Here are three things about the drama that have already piqued viewers’ curiosity:
1. The strange magic surrounding Hyun Bin’s character
Although Yoo Jin Woo is a modern businessman, there is something distinctly magical about his character. In an action-packed teaser video released last week, Yoo Jin Woo has a mysterious encounter with an armored knight who appears to have stepped directly out of the Middle Ages, and he also engages in both a sword fight and a gun fight on a train.
Yoo Jin Woo also declares that he traveled to Granada in order to see “magic,” leaving viewers eager to find out exactly what led him to Spain and what kind of magic lies in store for him there.
2. Park Shin Hye’s red veil
So far, all the photos released of Park Shin Hye’s character Jung Hee Joo have shown her sporting a casual, modern look—which is why viewers are so intrigued by the new glimpse of Park Shin Hye in a romantic white dress and mysterious red veil. Some have even speculated that the woman in the sheer red veil may not actually be Jung Hee Joo, but rather someone who looks exactly like her.
3. Chanyeol’s character going on the run
The latest teaser for the drama gave viewers their first glimpse of Chanyeol’s character Jung Se Joo—along with some new questions about his story. Late at night, Jung Se Joo calls Yoo Jin Woo from a public phone booth and frantically tells him, “Let’s meet in Granada. If you wait at the Bonita Hostel, I’ll meet you there.”
Jung Se Joo is clearly in a rush, and it appears as though he is being chased by someone, making viewers curious to find out why he’s on the run.
The producers of the drama remarked, “‘Memories of the Alhambra’ is a drama that will paint one large picture, using a variety of smaller stories that make up the plot as clues. It will also feature the refreshing subject matter of AR [Augmented Reality] games.”
“With each new episode, the drama will make viewers even more curious about what happens next,” they continued, “so we ask that you show a lot of interest and anticipation.”
“Memories of the Alhambra” will premiere on December 1 at 9 p.m. KST. In the meantime, check out the teasers for the drama here!
