Han Ji Hyuk’s fellow NIS colleagues who were completing a mission with him are discovered brutally murdered, and because no one has heard from him for a year, Han Ji Hyuk is assumed dead too. However, a year later when a coast guard is searching a boat that was smuggled in, Han Ji Hyuk makes his appearance. The inside of the boat is torn apart as if there had been a brawl, and Han Ji Hyuk attacks the organ trafficker who was begging for their life, right in front of the coast guards. His bloody state in the beginning of Episode 1 combined with his changed appearance and determined gaze left a lasting impression on viewers, leaving them even more eager to find out what has happened in the past year.
After losing all his memories, Han Ji Hyuk begins hypnosis treatment to regain the memories he lost the night his colleagues passed, but it’s no use. However, he finds out the shocking truth through a mysterious USB, discovering that he left himself messages. To his future self, Han Ji Hyuk shockingly states, “Inside our organization, there’s a rat. You intentionally erased your own memories in order to find that traitor.”
Once Han Ji Hyuk becomes suspicious of a Chinese organization illegally dealing drugs and begins to link it to the deaths of his colleagues, dark forces start to find him. After interrogating assistant boss Jang Kwang Chul (Shin Moon Sung), Han Ji Hyuk is still unable to find any definitive clues, so he hands the driver his phone number and says, “If you think of anything, give me a call right away.” However, the driver is actually boss Hwang Mo Sool (Baek Seung Chul), who holds a grudge against Han Ji Hyuk for killing his son and is out to get revenge. Han Ji Hyuk belatedly realizes this and gets into an intense car chase while trying to return to the police station. The shocking scene ends with Hwang Mo Sool dropping the piece of paper with Han Ji Hyuk’s number.
