There’s still plenty of questions left to answer in tvN’s “Moonshine”!
“Moonshine” is a drama set in the Joseon era, during the time when prohibition laws were at their strongest. The series tells the love story of Kang Ro Seo, a struggling aristocrat who starts illegally making alcohol in order to support her family (played by Hyeri), and Joseon’s greatest inspector Nam Young, who is known for living a very principled life (played by Yoo Seung Ho).
As the drama approaches its second half, here are three key points to look out for.
Kang Ro Seo and Nam Young have close to nothing in common, but after living together under one roof they began to let down their guard and express feelings close to affection for each other. Not even Kang Ro Seo’s job making alcohol illegally and Nam Young’s status as an inspector could keep them from opening up to each other. Complicating the matter, there is a possibility that Nam Young might get married to Han Ae Jin (Kang Mina), and Lee Pyo (Byun Woo Seok) wants Kang Ro Seo to participate in the crown princess selection.
In the midst of this, one scene in the drama suggested that the connection between Nam Young and Kang Ro Seo might very well be fated. The scene revealed that the tiger doll that Nam Young treasures dearly is also in the hands of Kang Ro Seo. Curiosity is mounting over the significance of the tiger doll and how it relates to their past.
While carrying out his hunt for moonshine (illegal alcohol), Nam Young ran into a traveling merchant named Shim Heon (Moon Yoo Kang), who is setting out to monopolize the moonshine market. He found out that the pattern on his tiger doll was the same as the tattoo on Shim Heon’s ankle.
With viewers already curious about their connection, it was also revealed that despite Shim Heon being quite the villain himself, he was also merely taking orders from someone else. This means that behind the untouchable Shim Heon stands someone even more powerful. Who could this mysterious villain be, and could they have some sort of connection with Nam Young as well?
Kang Ro Seo originally set out to make moonshine in order to pay back her brother’s debt. However, just when she was about to settle the full amount, she lost everything while evading Nam Young’s patrol. As her misfortunes continued to pile up, the person who lent her a helping hand was none other than Woon Shim (Park Ah In).
Kang Ro Seo entered into a contract with Woon Shim, risking her life to deliver half of the alcohol supply. With only one delivery round left, Woon Shim then tempted Kang Ro Seo with something even bigger. As she is a character with many secrets, there’s no telling if she will end up being Kan Ro Seo’s friend or foe. It remains to be seen whether or not Kang Ro Seo will fall for her offer or head back to Hanyang (modern-day Seoul), as well as how this will affect the outcome of her future.
“Moonshine” airs every Monday and Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. KST.
